In this column I pose questions and raise issues. I don't always agree with the conclusion, implied or stated. The purpose is to put a slightly different spin on each item and to promote discussion.

  • The millions of tax paying Americans who have no health insurance would probably choose coverage under Canada's "inferior" system to no coverage under America's "superior" system.
  • Whom we disrespect and how we express that disrespect matters.
  • There was probably a moment in Adolf Hitler's life when a word of kind encouragement or an expression of respect would have led him to choose an entirely different path. Knowing this does not excuse what he did, but it does impose greater responsibility upon us for what we do.
  • Certainty is a state of mind.
  • America is proof diversity works. But at what point does diversity become disintegration?
  • Feminism began with women's liberation, but is it now about women's revenge?
  • Many women's groups have done an admirable job of helping women break out of unhealthy situations common to women, only to find alternatives in the male world are frequently worse.
  • The "reasonable victim" standard is a survey of prevailing social attitudes. As such, it is subject to change.
  • I grew up thinking romantic love was like in the movie Oklahoma, but I never expected that, like most men, I would be permanently cast in the role of Judd, or that most women would be cast in the role of Ado Annie.
  • Will President Bush add American Indians and other minorities to his growing list of potential threats to America?
  • People who "argue" solely for the purpose of being right are no doubt well regarded by all but those who have work to do.
  • If women did not flock to have sex with brutes like Mike Tyson, men would neither look up to him nor pay good money to watch him beat up other men. But if men ignored him, women would, too. It's a vicious circle.
  • In my experience as an American Indian, accusing an African American of racism is liable to land you in a hospital. Like most whites, most blacks are not bigots. But those who are act as though any prejudice on their part is beyond reproach, and an entitlement that is not to be questioned.
  • In many respects, the swinging pendulum of social attitudes is more like a whip.
  • According to feminists, women suffer from low self-esteem. Also according to feminists, men suffer from weak egos. According to the rest of the world, they're the same thing.
  • Romance is the process by which men and women conspire to trick one another into falling in love.
  • "(Women go) shopping to make themselves look better. And when they do that, it equals sex, right?" - Tara Reid, Politically Incorrect, February 15, 2002. Women keep saying such things despite that for years feminists have insisted it's not true. Another case of paternalistic feminists knowing other women's minds better than the rest of the women do?
  • If we tax corporations, they'll just pass on the cost to consumers. That's one argument used against taxing corporations. But market forces - the competitive virtue of free enterprise - mitigate against passing taxes on to consumers.
  • Baby boomers who defend "capitalism" grew up when wages and benefits for average working people were at a historical high in the United States. Any claim they make that if they could make it then so can anybody who is willing to work hard is at least a little disingenuous as wages today, when adjusted for inflation, are, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, about half what they were 20 years ago.
  • Feminism has become the radical notion that only women are people.
  • One difference between women and men is, women were, as Erica Jong put it, "idealized into powerlessness," while men are being demonized into powerlessness. Most men, I suspect, would rather be idealized.
  • Men's chains are being forged by feminists, and the corporations and politicians who cater to them.
  • In western cultures, men generally focus on solving problems while women generally focus on escaping problems. No where is this more evident than in how each sex approaches problems with the opposite sex. Female problems are handled by doctors, psychiatrists and therapy, while male problems are handled by police, judges and prison guards.
  • In pop culture it's considered "payback for women" to make fun of men, and that's fine. Of course, they're just perpetuating the cycle of sexism, and the pendulum is already beginning to swing the other way.
  • Get a bunch of guys good and riled over a matter of principle, no telling how far they'll go to make it change. Killing them won't help: martyrs only create more converts to the cause. This is why the powers that be will never kill Internet pornography: It turns an otherwise effective medium for organizing dissent and fomenting change into a multi-billion dollar diversion that occupies the attention of millions of men who would otherwise be marching in the street.
  • Jews call Israel home. That's fine with me. But why is it fine with religious Jews? Why do so many Christians think this is okay? According to the Old Testament, God scattered the Hebrews and took away their homeland. When did He call them back?
  • Unvarnished truth sounds angry, whether the speaker is angry or not.
  • Most women respect and desire promiscuous men; until that changes, men have no reason to change.
  • The solution to building jet plane proof office buildings, which provide the additional benefit of energy efficiency and high resistance to earthquakes, lies beneath our feet: underground.
  • On the February 7th episode of Politically Incorrect, host Bill Maher asked who doesn't already know about the bad stuff in cigarettes? A lot of young folks and children, it seems: According to a report from Health & Human Services, "Between 1992 and 1995, rates increased from 17.2 percent to 21.6 percent." (SD 3.1 Cigarette Smoking Among Youth) Just because those of us who grew up in the sixties and seventies got the message doesn't mean we should shirk responsibility to educate the next generations.
  • When a man is accused of a crime, the press presumes guilt and calls him an "accused criminal." He's an "accused rapists," "accused murderer" or whatever. But when a woman is accused of a crime, the press is far more likely to simply report the fact she has been accused of a crime than to actually label her as a criminal.
