Male victims of chronic violence show the same dynamics as female victims:
Men can be abused when:
- Low self-esteem
- Sense of being "trapped"
- Learned helplessness
- Fear
Emotional abuse by wives is perhaps more common and equally as devastating.
- They cannot or will not hit back.
- They have been taught from childhood never to hit a woman and thus cannot defend themselves.
Threats of divorce, losing children, home, income, all contribute to the power of a woman over a man.
