It's taken almost as self-evident truth that men are Male Chauvinist Pigs. But sexism is common among women, and few are talking about that. Instead, pop- feminists complain that men tell inappropriate jokes that bash women.
Perhaps this would explain the recent popularity of The Dumb Male Jokebook.
Regardless, at least since the modern women's movement began, women have joked about men with as much gusto as men have joked about women. From "men only think with their little head" jokes to jokes about kicking men's testicles, women have been as exuberant about making the opposite sex the butt of their humor as any man.
This is especially prevalent in the work place. In 1990, for example, as I was sitting in my office at Microsoft, a female co-worker came giggling into my office and handed me a sheet of paper with the words, "I suffer from PMS: Putting up with Men's Shit" emblazoned on it. Later, I received the following chain letter through in-house mail:
Unlike most chain letters, this one does not cost anything. Just send a copy of this letter to five of your friends who are equally frustrated. Then, bundle up your husband or boyfriend; send him to the woman whose name appears at the top of the list.
When your name comes to the top of the list, you will receive 16,877 men ... one of them is bound to be a hell of a lot better than the one you already have. Do not break the chain. One woman broke the chain and got her own son-of-a-bitch back. At this writing, a friend of mine already received 184 men. They buried her yesterday, but it took three undertakers 36 hours to get the smile off her face, and two days to get her legs together so they could close the coffin.
Hurry up and send this letter along, so my name can move up fast!!!
Where are the pop-feminists when you need them to complain about the sexism of anti-male humor? Maybe it's not a problem because most men have a sense of humor. Or maybe they're just too busy branding male self-interest as sexism to bother.
As though it were sexist for men to spend money on their own behalf, one of the female doctors noted middle-aged men diagnosed with high blood pressure are most likely to contribute money to medical research that will benefit them.
Men who invest money into researching male health problems are not sexist, but self-interested. Those who call this sexist reveal they believe women are more valuable than men. That women's health concerns should receive higher priority than men's. Is this women's liberation, or female supremacy? Either way, it's sexism.
